(Connecticut).- During July 2024, Connecticut's online casinos recorded a 5.5% increase in revenue compared to June, reversing the steep decline from the previous month.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe’s DraftKings Casino drove the month’s gains, increasing around $2 million from June, according to online casino gaming figures from CT.gov. It leeds the way with significant gains, solidifying Connecticut's position in the growing online gaming market.
Key takeaways
- Connecticut online casinos generated $41.7 million in July.
- Revenue was up around $2.2 million month-on-month.
- July’s 5.6% monthly increase was the second-highest monthly rise this year.
DraftKings Casino leads CT iGaming out of the summer cellar
Connecticut’s online casino market was in bad shape in July.
After CT online casino revenue in May 2024 hit a record high of $46.2 million, revenue plummeted 14.5% to $39.5 million in June. It was the biggest monthly drop-off in the past year.
However, the state’s two online casinos, DraftKings and FanDuel (partnering with Mohegan Sun), rebounded in July. DraftKings’ revenue rose from $20.5 million to $22.5 million. Meanwhile, FanDuel Casino saw an uptick from $19 million to $19.2 million.
Combined, the two casinos brought home $41.7 million. While the total was a much-needed improvement over June’s numbers, it was also the fifth-highest monthly total over the past year:
Of note is that Connecticut’s online lottery did a full launch on July 1, essentially introducing more competition for online casinos.
However, it’s too early to tell if the emergence of online lottery will impact online casinos. But it’s a possibility we’ll keep an eye on in the coming months.
CT regulators help online casinos by cutting out Bovada
While the jury’s still out on whether the iLottery will impact Connecticut iGaming, one thing is certain: Online casinos no longer have to worry about competing for revenue with illegal offshore operator Bovada.
Bovada placed Connecticut on its list of restricted jurisdictions after it received a cease-and-desist letter from two of Connecticut’s top gaming and consumer protection bosses.
That’s a significant win for the state’s legal online casinos, which will likely increase customer acquisition (assuming that some gamblers wagered exclusively at Bovada’s online casino).
