(United States).- ESPN, historically one of the leaders in sports coverage in the United States and well positioned in some Latin American countries, faces significant challenges in an environment increasingly dominated by technology and competition for sports rights.

The network is embracing a radical transformation strategy that involves a transition from being a sports news network on television to becoming a sports lifestyle brand. This strategy includes a strong commitment to sports betting, streaming and strengthening its presence on social networks.
According to Axios, ESPN's main priority is the launch of a new streaming service that will unify its television networks with its current platform, ESPN+.
The service, which is currently called “Flagship,” will integrate functions such as statistics, commerce and a personalized version of its popular program “SportsCenter,” using artificial intelligence (AI). Jimmy Pitaro, president of ESPN, assured that AI will be a beneficial tool for both the sports industry and fans.
In line with this transformation, ESPN is also expanding its sports betting business, launching ESPN Bet in New York and linking users' accounts through its application. ESPN has also introduced a new feature in its app, “Where to Watch,” which helps fans find where to watch games, even if ESPN doesn’t have the broadcast rights. This tool, as reported by The Verge, wants to position itself as a kind of universal guide for sports streaming, aggregating information from more than 250 streaming services.

The company is also betting on strengthening its presence on social networks, highlighting its popularity on TikTok, where it has more than 47 million followers. To do this, it will continue to invest in its network of creators, allowing influencers to have unprecedented access to its events to make content go viral.
In terms of its editorial approach, ESPN seems to be moving away from traditional standards, giving more prominence to opinion analysts such as Pat McAfee, who has openly criticized journalistic standards, receiving support from colleagues within the network.
