(Madrid).- The Government of the Community of Madrid has reported that the number of betting houses in the region has decreased from 160 in 2019 to 64 currently, which represents a reduction of 60%. Likewise, gaming halls have experienced a decrease of 8%.

Madrid has experienced a 60% reduction in betting centers since 2019

During the Plenary Session of the Madrid Assembly, the Minister of Environment, Interior and Agriculture, Carlos Novillo, highlighted that the Community of Madrid ranks 14th in number of gaming halls per 100,000 inhabitants among the 17 autonomous communities and the two autonomous cities of the country.

Novillo also detailed that the Regional Government has carried out 27,000 inspections in 2023 and 15,000 so far in 2024. These inspections have resulted in a decreasing balance of sanctions, which, according to the counselor, indicates that the sector is adapting and respecting the current regulation.

The decrease in the number of gaming establishments and the reduction of sanctions reflect the regional government's efforts to regulate and control the betting and gaming sector. This trend suggests greater compliance by operators with the imposed regulations, as well as a possible decrease in the accessibility of these premises for residents of the Community of Madrid.
